Judge Thomas L. Verge - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Thomas L. Verge is a judge for the Skagit County Superior Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020.

Prior to his election, Verge sat as a judge for the Skagit County District Court, a position to which he was appointed by the Skagit County Board of Commissioners in 2015. Before that, he was a commissioner for the Whatcom County Superior Court (2005 to 2015).

Verge earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1988.

After graduating from law school, Verge entered into private practice, handling criminal defense, civil law, and family law matters as a partner at Weyrich & Verge, a law firm in Mount Vernon. Then, in 1998, he was elected Prosecuting Attorney for the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He worked in that capacity until 2002, at which time he became a deputy prosecuting attorney for the Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

His memberships have included the Skagit Mount Vernon Rotary (president) and the Board of the Boys & Girls Club.

Verge was raised in Skagit County, where he attended Mount Vernon High School. His wife, Cindy, has served as the Director of the Tulip Festival.
