The Hon. Thomas J. Nixon is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2015. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kenneth M. Burr (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Nixon graduated magna cum laude with his B.S. in business administration from San Jose State University in 1981. He went on to earn his J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1984.
Nixon began his legal career as an associate with Quaresma, Benya, Hall, and Haun in 1984. Four years later, Nixon was made a named partner for the firm, which became Quaresma, Benya, Hall, Connich, O'Hara, and Nixon. He remained with the firm until entering into solo practice in 1998.
Then, in 2002, Nixon was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Alameda County Superior Court. He would remain in that position until his appointment to the bench in 2015.
While on the bench, Judge Nixon has served as a chief supervising judge and supervising judge for the Family Law Department at the Hayward Hall of Justice. He has also presided over a family law long cause calendar.
