Biography

The Hon. Thomas J. Lo is a judge for the Orange County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on April 28, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kim G. Dunning.

Lo earned a J.D. at Western State College of Law in 1991.

After graduating from law school, Lo began his legal career as a law clerk at Lanak & Hanna. The following year, he worked two short stints as an associate at the Law Offices of Gerald Schubert (1992) and George & Shields (1992). He then settled into a position at LaFollette, Johnson, DeHaas, Fesler & Ames.

Lo joined the Orange County Public Defender’s Office in 1996. He served as a deputy public defender for three years, eventually leaving to return to private practice. He worked as an associate at Cooksey, Howard, Martin & Toolen (1999) and Hatton, Petri & Stackler (1999 to 2001). He then returned to the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, accepting a position as an assistant public defender in 2001. He served in that capacity until his appointment to the bench.

He is registered as a Democrat.
