Hon. Tamatha R. Schreinert is a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Steve Sisolak in 2019.
Schreinert received a B.A. in psychology from Whitman College in 1992. She went on to earn a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1998.
After law school, she joined Randolph & Associates in Santa Monica, California, where she practiced as an associate from 1999 to 2000.
Schreinert then joined the Children’s Law Center of California. As an attorney there, she represented hundreds of children in the foster care system in Los Angeles, serving as their legal advocate at hearings and trials. She remained in this capacity until 2005.
After relocating to Nevada in 2006, Schreinert became a consultant with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. During her time there, she helped draft and edit child welfare Bench Books for the states of Nevada and Maryland.
In 2010, she was appointed to serve as a Court Master for the Second Judicial District Court, Family Division. While there, Schreinert presided over hearings involving custody, divorce, child support, dependency, and domestic violence cases.
She left the Court in 2012 to enter into private practice at her own family law mediation firm. After briefly serving in that capacity, Schreinert merged her practice with Silverman, Kattelman, Springgate, Chtd. the following year. She remained a partner there until her appointment to the bench.
In addition to her law practice, Schreinert served as a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem in contested divorce matters and a court-appointed mediator in dependency matters.
While on the bench, she has presided in the Family Division.
Her memberships have included the State Bar of Nevada, Washoe County Bar Association, Bruce R. Thompson Inns of Court, Northern Nevada Women Lawyers, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the American Bar Association.
Schreinert also served as a member of the Nevada Collaborative Divorce Professionals Group and served on the mediation panel for the Family Court in Washoe County.
She was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. In her free time, Schreinert enjoys reading, spending time with her family, hiking, and walking her dogs.
