Biography

The Hon. Suzanne I. Gazzaniga is a judge for the Superior Court of Placer County in California. She was elected to the bench in 2012.

Gazzaniga earned a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She then completed a J.D. from Southwestern Law School.

Prior to her election to the bench, Gazzaniga served as a deputy district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Placer County for more than fifteen years. During this time, she prosecuted serious crimes, including homicide, elder abuse, and domestic violence. Before that, she worked as an attorney in private practice.

Gazzaniga has served as president of the Placer County Bar Association. She has also served on the Placer Breast Cancer Endowment Committee.

She was named the Statewide Rural and Medium County Co-Prosecutor of the Year by the California District Attorneys Association in 2009. She also received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award for Elder Abuse Prosecution in 2003.

Gazzaniga was raised in Placer County, where her mother was a school teacher.
