The Hon. Susanne S. Cho is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2014. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David B. Downing (Ret.). At the time of her appointment, Judge Cho held the distinction of being the first Korean American woman to hold a judicial position in Riverside County.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Cho received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
While in law school, Cho clerked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and also with Bank of America. After law school, Cho joined the Riverside County Public Defender's Office, where she worked as a deputy public defender for ten years.
Then, in 2004, Cho left the public sector to work as an attorney at the Law Offices of Rodney Lee Soda. She remained in that position until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2015.
While on the bench, Judge Cho has presided over the Juvenile Dependency Department at the Indio Juvenile Court.
Judge Cho was born in Kwangju, South Korea. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was eight years old. In her free time, Cho enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Thomas Cavanaugh.
