The Hon. Susan M. Gill is a judge for the Superior Court of Kern County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on December 30, 2009, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Arthur E. Wallace.
Gill earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California in 1980. She then completed a J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1983.
She began her legal career as a partner at Gill and Gill in 1983. She worked there alongside her father, S.B. “Barney” Gill, for six years, eventually leaving to serve as deputy county counsel in the Office of County Counsel of Kern County in 1989. During her twenty-year tenure in the Office of County Counsel, she represented its mental health system, its department of human services, and its department of aging and adult services. Through this experience, she would quickly become recognized as a mental health litigation expert.
Gill has been a member of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield East.
She was born in Bakersfield, where she attended East High School. Her husband is also an attorney, having served as chief attorney for Child Support Services.
Gill is registered as a Republican.
