The Hon. Susan L. Greenberg is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. She was initially elected to the bench in 2014, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Beth L. Freeman to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. She was then appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown, which allowed her to assume the bench early.
Greenberg earned a B.A. in economics and accounting from Claremont McKenna College in 1981. She then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1984.
She began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of San Mateo County in 1984.
Three years later, Greenberg left the public sector and accepted a position as an associate at the Law Offices of Philip H. Schecter. She practiced there for four years, eventually leaving to start her own private practice, the Law Offices of Susan L. Greenberg. During this time, she primarily handled civil matters, specializing in family law, probate, personal injury, and real estate cases.
Then, in 2000, she was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Superior Court of San Mateo County. She held this position until her appointment to the bench.
Greenberg has served as President of Kiwanis International. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the California Court Commissioners Association, the San Mateo County Bar Association, and the Service League of San Mateo County.
She is registered as a Republican.
