The Hon. Steven K. Austin is a judge for the Superior Court of Contra Costa County in California. He was appointed by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1998.
Judge Austin earned a B.A. in communication studies from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1978. Then, in 1981, he received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Austin was in private practice for 17 years. He started as an associate at Cole & Scott, later working as a partner at Buresh, Kaplan, Feller & Chang.
He has served on the Board of Directors of Protection Advocacy Inc. and the California State Mental Health Planning Council. He has been a member of the Veterans Courts Working Group of the Administrative Office of the Courts and the California Commission on Access to Justice. He has also served as a faculty member for numerous judicial education programs.
Austin is registered as a Republican.
