Judge Stephanie A. McLaughlin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Stephanie A. McLaughlin is a judge for the Stamford/Norwalk Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Dannel Malloy in 2018.

Prior to joining the judiciary, McLaughlin was the executive director of the Stamford Hospital Foundation, a position she held since 2013. As such, she was tasked with drafting and negotiating contracts, drafting board resolutions, as well as overseeing litigation, mediations, arbitrations, and real estate and business transactions for the organization. McLaughlin also led the planned giving initiative for the hospital foundation.

Before accepting the position there, she was a partner in the Stamford law firm of Sandak Hennessey & Greco, LLP, where she acted as an advisor to businesses in matters that included commercial real estate lease negotiations and employment.

McLaughlin received a B.A. in international relations from American University. She went on to complete a J.D. at DePaul University College of Law.

She was admitted to practice in Connecticut (2000), New York (2001), the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Before beginning her legal career, McLaughlin served as the special assistant to the Chief of Staff for the Peace Corps in Washington, D.C., (1995 to 1997) and as a clerk in the Office of General Counsel for the Peace Corps (1998).

She was born and raised in Pennsylvania. At the time of her appointment, McLaughlin had resided in Stamford since 2013.
