Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Sandhu had spent his entire legal career at the Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office beginning in 2003. During his fourteen-year tenure there, Sandhu matriculated through the ranks, first working as a deputy public defender before being elevated to chief deputy and then ultimately being appointed to head the office in 2017.
