Judge Sherwood S. Coleman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Sherwood S. Coleman is a judge for the 6th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2013. He filled the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. W. Lowell Bray.

The 6th Judicial Circuit encompasses Pasco County and Pinellas County.

Prior to his appointment, Coleman was associate general counsel with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, a position to which he was named in 2007. He came to the office after spending ten years as a partner at the law firm of Kwall, Showers, and Barack, P.A.

Coleman received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1994.

After graduating from law school, Coleman began his legal career as an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. He remained there until entering into private practice in 1997.
