Biography

The Hon. Shelley M. Joseph is an associate justice of the Newton District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker in 2017.


Prior to her appointment, Joseph was a founder of Joseph & Joseph, a law firm she managed with her husband. They specialized in criminal defense matters as well as hearings before the registry of motor vehicles and restraining orders.


Before that, she worked as an assistant attorney general for the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General (1993 to 2000). During her tenure there, she held assignments in the Family and Community Crimes Bureau, the Business and Fair Labor Protection Bureau, and the Criminal Bureau.


Joseph earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. She then completed a J.D. at New England School of Law.
