Biography

The Hon. Sheldon H. Grossfeld (deceased) was a Chief Justice for the Third District Court of Appeal in California. Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal, Grossfeld presided on the Sacramento County Municipal and Superior Courts. He became a Municipal Court judge in 1967. Grossfeld passed away on May 19, 2010.

He received his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1956. He would go on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1959.

During his legal career outside of the bench, Grossfeld served as a trial lawyer specializing in business and corporate disputes.

After he retired from his judicial career, Grossfeld served as a neutral for Advantage Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc.

His memberships included the California State Board of Architectural Examiners, the California Public Works Contract Arbitration Committee, and the Commission on State Government and Economy.

He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

Though Grossfeld hailed from New York, he was raised in San Francisco, California. He loved playing golf and was a member of the PGA West. He also enjoyed traveling and cooking.
