The Honorable Sheila M. McGinnis

Biography

The Hon. Sheila M. McGinnis (Ret.) was a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. She was elected to the Circuit Court in 2002 and was retained in subsequent elections. At the time of her election, she filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Aubrey F. Kaplan (Ret.). McGinnis retired in 2016.

While on the bench, she held assignments in the First and Fifth Municipal Districts of the Municipal Department.

She received a B.A. from Marquette University in 1983. McGinnis went on to earn a J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1989.

After law school, she joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she served as an assistant state’s attorney. Over the course of her tenure there, she held assignments in the Criminal, Appeals, Child Support Enforcement, Narcotics, Misdemeanor, and Traffic Divisions.

McGinnis is registered as a Democrat.
