The Honorable Sheila F. Hanson

The Hon. Sheila F. Hanson is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. She was appointed by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on December 6, 2006.

Hanson attended Western State University where she earned a B.S. in law. She continued her studies at Western State University, completing a J.D. in 1989.

Hanson began her legal career in 1989. She joined the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County as a Deputy District Attorney. She was eventually promoted to Senior Deputy District Attorney, where she was responsible for supervising the Felony Filing Unit. She led a team charged with prosecuting kidnappings, robberies, and homicides. She was later assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit, where she spent more than five years prosecuting sex offenders. She also served in the Gang Unit, prosecuting criminal street gang members for carjackings, drug dealings, and drive-by shootings.

Hanson was raised in Orange County. Her father is an Iranian immigrant. He came to the United States when he was sixteen years old, establishing a successful small business in Orange County. In the early 1970s, Hanson traveled back and forth between the United States and Iran, visiting her grandfather in Tehran and Isfahan.

Hanson was living in North Tustin with her husband and two children at the time of her appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County. She is a parishioner of Holy Family Cathedral.

Hanson has served on the Board for the Association of Orange County Deputy District Attorneys. She has also served on the Board of Directors of Winifred Campbell Professional Auxiliary and the Board of Directors of the Laurel House.

She has received endorsements from Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters, the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, and the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations.

She is registered to vote as a Democrat.
