The Hon. Scott B. Cooper is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Jerry Brown on November 2, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Carla M. Singer.
Cooper earned a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He then received a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
Cooper began his legal career in 1994, spending one year as a law clerk for the Hon. Alicemarie H. Stotler at the United States District Court in the Central District of California. He then worked as an associate at Latham and Watkins, where he practiced for the next four years. In 1999 he joined Cooper and Jones as an associate, eventually becoming a partner at Cooper, Jones, and Cooper in 2003. Four years later he became the managing attorney at the Cooper Law Firm, a firm that specializes in employee and consumer class action cases. He held this position until his appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County.
Cooper was a resident of Irvine, California at the time of his appointment to the bench.
He is registered without party preference.
