The Hon. Samuel J. Dalesandro, Jr. is a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. At the time, he filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Donald Black (Ret.).
He is registered without party preference.
Judge Dalesandro graduated with his bachelor’s degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He went on to earn a J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 2001.
Shortly after graduating from law school, Dalesandro began his legal career in corporate and private practice. He briefly practiced as an attorney at Tele Atlas North America, Inc. (2002 to 2003) before moving to the firm Mullen and Filippi LLP, where he practiced as an associate for one year. He also practiced for one year as an associate at the Law Offices of Vincent P. Hurley (2004 to 2005).
Then, in 2006, Dalesandro entered the public sector, where he began working as a deputy district attorney with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office. He held that position until 2008, at which time, he became a senior deputy district attorney in Fresno County. While at the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, Dalesandro’s caseload included misdemeanors, felonies, and gang-related cases. During his tenure in Fresno County, he was assigned to the Homicide Unit.
Dalesandro was certified as a specialist in criminal law by the State Bar of California.
He left the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office in 2017, after being selected to serve as a court commissioner of the Fresno County Superior Court. Dalesandro was serving in that capacity at the time of his appointment to the bench.
While a judge of the Superior Court, he has presided over a Civil Limited/Small Claims assignment.
Dalesandro has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central California.
His wife, the Hon. Heather Mardel Jones, is also a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court.
Judge Dalesandro was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona.
