The Hon. Samuel J. Carroll (deceased) served as a judge for the Taylor County Court at Law No. 2 in Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2010.
Carroll earned a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi (1969) and an M.Ed. in guidance education from Mississippi State University (1974). At that time, he also received his commission as an officer in the United States Army, serving the 1st Battalion of the 501st Infantry as a Platoon Leader and Battalion Intelligence and Security Officer.
Over the course of his military career, he was assigned to the 73rd Combat Intelligence Company as Executive Officer and Operations Officer. He also commanded the 330th Electronic Warfare Aviation Company (Echterdingen, Germany) as well as the B Company 2nd Military Intelligence Battalion (Germany).
While serving as Battalion Commander and Professor of Military Science at Hardin-Simmons University, Carroll completed a masters degree in counseling and human development in 1994. The following year, he retired from his 25-year military career. He enrolled at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, where he received a J.D. in 1998.
After graduating from law school, Carroll began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Taylor County District Attorneys Office. He served in that capacity for eleven years.
Carroll was born and raised in Greenville, Mississippi. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1965. He passed away after sustaining injuries in a bicycle accident while participating in the Tour de Gap Bike-A-Thon in 2015.
