Biography

The Hon. Samantha P. Jessner is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in March of 2007 by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Chris Conway.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Jessner received her bachelor's degree from Stanford University. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1991.

After graduating from law school, Jessner joined the law firm of Sheppard Mullin as an attorney. After three years in private practice, she became an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California in 1994. She left in 2000 to serve as counsel for The Boeing Company. In 2001 she joined the Inspector General's Office as an Assistant Inspector General for the Los Angeles Police Commission. Jenner returned to the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2002 where she would serve as Director of the Financial Crimes Task Force. She remained in that capacity until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2007.

During her time on the Superior Court, Judge Jessner has served as a supervising judge for the mental health courthouse, and as an assistant supervising judge in the criminal division. She has also presided over the criminal trial court.

In 2017 Jessner was appointed to the Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions (CJEO) by the California Supreme Court, the committee was established to offer ethics advice to judicial officers. She has also served on the Judicial Council Information Technology Advisory Committee and the Civil Jury Instructions Committee.

Judge Jessner has taught qualifying judicial ethics as an instructor for the California Center for Judicial Education and Research. In 2017 she served as moderator for a discussion involving diversity in the entertainment industry at the National Association of Women Judges' Midyear Meeting and Leadership Conference.

She has also written articles for law magazines on the subjects of technological advancements within the Superior Court, and the benefits of the informal discovery conference.
