The Hon. Ryan J. Wright is a judge for the Ventura County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in June 2010. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John E. Dobroth (Ret.).
Judge Wright received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, Irvine in 1994. He went on to earn his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1997.
Wright served a clerkship at the Ventura County Public Defender's Office and the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. Then, in 1997, he joined the D.A.'s office full-time as a deputy district attorney. During his thirteen-year tenure there, Wright worked on the Sexual Assualt Unit and was also recognized for his work involving narcotics enforcement. Then, in 2007, he was promoted to senior deputy district attorney. He would remain in that position until being elected to the bench three years later.
While on the Superior Court, Judge Wright served as the Supervising Criminal Judge, presiding over a master criminal calendar as well as preliminary hearings.
Wright was named the Ventura County District Attorney's Prosecutor of the Year in 1998 and 2009. He was also recognized as the Region 6 Prosecutor of the Year in 2006 by the California Narcotics Officers' Association and received the 2010 United States Attorney's Office Law Enforcement Award.
