Biography

The Hon. Roy O. Churnus is a judge for the Marin County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in 2010.


Judge Churnus received his bachelor's degree from George Washington University. He went on to earn his J.D. from the New York Law School.


Prior to his election to the bench, Churnus had served as a court commissioner for the Marin County Superior Court since 2005.


In 2016, Judge Churnus donated his kidney, as part of a daisy chain of donors and recipients, to the wife of retired Marin County Superior Court judge, the Hon. Michael Dufficy (Ret.). Penny Dufficy received a kidney from a donor in Maryland, and Judge Churnus' kidney went to a recipient in Colorado. The daisy chain that resulted in her organ donation consisted of 32 people across the country.
