Biography

The Hon. Ronald V. Alvarez was a judge for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Palm Beach County, Florida. He was appointed to the Circuit Court by former Governor Lawton Chiles in 1993 and re-elected in 2006 and 2012. He resigned from the bench in 2014.
Alvarez graduated with his B.A. in political science from Indiana University in 1966. He also holds a J.D. from Indiana University School of Law (1969).
After graduating from law school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.
Prior to joining the bench, Alvarez worked as an attorney in private practice since 1972. His areas of practice included insurance litigation and contract disputes.
During his tenure on the Circuit Court, he held assignments in the Juvenile, Civil, and Family Divisions.
After resigning from the bench, Alvarez became a mediator and arbitrator at a private mediation firm.
He served as a chairperson of The Florida Bars Grievance Committee and as a member of its Commission on the Legal Needs of Children. He also served as president of the Palm Beach County Chapter of The Florida Bar and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He was a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
In 1986, Alvarez received The Florida Bar Presidents Pro Bono Award.
