Biography

The Hon. Rohanee A. Zapanta is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on December 7, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Judith F. Hayes.

Zapanta earned a B.A. from the University of San Diego in 1998. She then continued her studies at the University of San Diego School of Law, where she received a J.D. in 2002.

She began her legal career in 2002, working as a law clerk in the Law Offices of Robert L. Swain as well as the Office of the Public Defender of San Diego County.

The following year, she joined Price Law Group as an associate. Then, in 2005, she briefly worked at the Law Offices of Ray Bulaon.

Zapanta returned to the Office of the Public Defender of San Diego County in 2005, where she served as a deputy public defender until her appointment to the bench.

Zapanta self-identifies as a Filipina-American.

She is registered as a Democrat.
