The Honorable Roger Ross

San Joaquin County Superior Court, Department 11B

The Hon. Roger Ross is a judge for the San Joaquin County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007.

Judge Ross received his bachelor's degree from Tufts University. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Ross worked in both the public and private sectors. In the public arena, Ross served two stints as a chief deputy public defender for the San Joaquin County Public Defender's Office, where he practiced from 1977 to 1986 and again from 1987 until he received the call to the bench.

Ross also spent four years in private practice, where he practiced for one year as an attorney at the law firm of Brown, Hall, and Spatola.

While on the bench, Judge Ross has presided in the Civil Division.

In 2010, Judge Ross contracted the West Nile Virus from a mosquito bite. The virus caused him to become paralyzed in both arms, and the judge spent six weeks in intensive care. As part of his recovery, Judge Ross went through intense physical therapy, though he never regained the use of his right arm.
