The Hon. Rodney A. Cortez is a judge for the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in November 2006, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Roberta McPeters.
Cortez earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1992. He then continued his studies at Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he completed a J.D. in 1995.
He began his legal career with a brief stint in private practice in 1995. The following year, he joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Bernardino County as a Deputy District Attorney. During his tenure there, he served in its Hardcore Gang and Career Criminal Prosecution Unit, where he prosecuted high-profile gang murders, robberies, and carjackings.
Cortez is registered as a Republican.
