The Hon. Rochelle C. East is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. She was appointed by former governor Jerry Brown on May 21, 2013, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jerome T. Benson.
East earned a B.A. from Stanford University. She then received a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
East began her legal career as an associate at Schachter, Kristoff, Orenstein, and Berkowitz in 1996. She left the firm four years later in order to join the Office of the Attorney General of the California Department of Justice as a deputy attorney general. Then, in 2004, she briefly worked as a foreign service officer for the United States Department of State in Haiti. She returned to the Office of the Attorney General the following year, serving as a supervising deputy attorney general.
During her tenure in the Office of the Attorney General, East advanced to senior assistant attorney general of the correctional law section, eventually becoming a chief deputy attorney general in 2011.
East served in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1993.
