Judge Robert M. Evans: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Robert M. Evans (Ret.) served as a judge for the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Evans was elected to the bench in 1996. He retired at the conclusion of his term on January 5, 2015, and joined Florida Private Trials & Mediation.

The 9th Judicial Circuit encompasses Osceola County and Orange County. Evans presided over cases in the Criminal Division, the Civil Division, the Domestic Relations Division, and the Juvenile Division.

Prior to his election, Evans was a judge for the Orange County Court, a position to which he was named in 1994.

Evans earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Ball State University. He then completed a J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 1985.

After graduating from law school, Evans began his legal career as an attorney at Page Avjet Corporation in Orlando. During his tenure there, he helped form Signature Flight Support Corporation, a premier private aircraft support company, and served as its senior vice-president and general counsel.

His memberships have included the Supreme Court Committee for Children and Families and the Education Committee of the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges. He has served on the boards of directors of Hughes Aviation, Butler Aviation, Van Dusen Aviation, and the Orlando Science Center. He also chaired the Orange County Blue Ribbon Task Force on Domestic Violence and the Florida Juvenile Justice Advisory Group.

Evans was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Evans served as an infantry company commander, attaining the rank of captain.
