Biography

The Hon. Robert M. Dees is a judge for the Civil Division of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County, Florida. Dees was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2016, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Harvey Jay, III to the Florida First District Court of Appeal.
Prior to his appointment, Dees was an attorney in private practice. He worked as an associate at Wahl & Gabel (1987 to 1998), a partner at Holland & Knight (1998 to 2002), and a partner at Milam, Howard, Nicandri, Dees & Gillam, P.A. (2002 to 2016). Over the course of his legal career, Dees specialized in commercial and general civil litigation, handling admiralty, maritime, and surface transportation matters as well as First Amendment and Sunshine Law issues.
Dees earned a bachelors degree from Washington and Lee University in 1984. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law.
