The Hon. Robert James Moss is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Gray Davis on April 19, 2002, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Richard Aronson to the Court of Appeal.
Moss earned a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine in 1968. He then received a J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1973.
Moss began his legal career in 1973. He worked as an associate with Parker, Stanbury, McGee, Babcock & Combs, eventually becoming a partner in 1978. Then, in 1986, he served as a founding partner of Howard, Moss, Loveder, Strickroth & Parker, a position he held until his appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County in 2002. He has devoted a majority of his private practice to the representation of defendants in civil litigation, specializing in personal injury, insurance bad faith, construction defect, professional malpractice, governmental entity and business tort litigation.
He was named Judge of the Year in 2005 by the Orange County Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He received the Jerrold Oliver Award from the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association in 2007 as well as the George Francis Civility Award by the Orange County Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2010.
He spends his weekends playing golf. He also enjoys traveling, snow skiing, and racing sailboats.
