The Hon. Robert E. Updegrove is a judge for the Hays County Court at Law No. 1 in Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
Prior to his election, Updegrove worked as an attorney in private practice, where he handled criminal and civil matters in Hays County.
Updegrove earned a J.D. from St. Marys University School of Law in 2001.
His memberships have included the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Hays County Republican Party, the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, and First Christian Church. He has also served as treasurer of the United Way of Hays County.
Born and raised in the Texas Gulf Coast, Updegrove graduated from Aransas Pass High School. His father was a lobbyist for the Seafood Producers Association, helping to protect the rights of those involved in commercial fishing. While in college, Updegrove owned and operated a commercial fishing and shrimping business with his brother. He has also worked as a technical writer for Northwest Airlines as well as the owner of a speciality residential renovation company.
He is registered as a Republican.
