The Hon. Robert D. Foiles is a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1997.
Foiles earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981. He then completed a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1984.
As a law student, Foiles intended to pursue a career as a tax attorney. However, his plans changed after he was offered a position as a research attorney with the Superior Court of San Francisco County. He then joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Mateo County, where he served as a deputy district attorney for the next twelve years.
Foiles was born in San Francisco and raised in Daly City. His mother was a homemaker and his father owned a small trucking company.
While not presiding over cases, Foiles enjoys coaching youth sports.
