The Hon. Robert Broadbelt, III is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2012 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Maral Injejikian (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Broadbelt received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
Broadbelt began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Musick, Peeler, and Garrett LLP in 1984. A year later, he joined the law firm of Browne, Woods, George LLP, first as an associate and then ultimately was named a partner. He practiced for the firm from 1986 to 2007, when it merged with Dreier, Stein, and Kahan. Broadbelt would serve as a partner for the newly formed Dreier, Stein, Kahan, Browne, Woods, George LLP until it was dissolved the next year after the equity partner, Marc Dreier was charged with investment fraud. The erstwhile Browne, Woods, George LLP was reformed in 2009, and Broadbelt remained on as a partner.
Then, in 2011, Broadbelt became of counsel at the law firm Leader Counsel LLP. He remained there until his appointment to the Superior Court a year later.
