Biography

The Hon. Robert B. Hawk is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on December 22, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Teresa Guerrero-Daley.

Hawk earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He then completed a J.D. from Stanford Law School.

He began his legal career in 1984. He first worked as an associate at Heller Ehrman LLP, eventually rising to shareholder in 1990. Then, in 2008, he moved to Hogan Lovells, where he worked as a partner until his appointment to the bench. During his tenure there, he specialized in class-action lawsuits as well as commercial disputes. He has accumulated over thirty years of experience in consumer and antitrust class actions, handling claims for false advertising, fraud, trade secrets, breach of contract, and consumer protection on behalf of the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, high-tech, and financial industries.

He is registered as a Democrat.
