Biography

The Hon. Robert A. Burlison is a judge for the Monterey County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael Fields (Ret.).

He is a registered Republican.

Judge Burlison received his B.A. from Point Loma College in 1978. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1981.

Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Burlison had served as a deputy district attorney with the Monterey County District Attorney's Office since 1983. During his tenure there, he served in the Major Felony Prosecution Unit. Before joining the D.A.'s office, Burlison had worked as a criminal defense attorney in private practice and was also a deputy district attorney with the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

During his time on the Superior Court, Judge Burlison has presided over the Collaborative Courts in Monterey County, including the Combined Drug Court, the DUI Treatment Court, the Veteran's Treatment Court, the Military Diversion Calendar, and the Criminal Mental Health Court. He has also presided in the Appellate Division.

Judge Burlison is a native of Salinas, California.
