Biography

The Hon. Richard J. Burdge, Jr. is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2014. He succeeded Shari K. Silver after her retirement from the bench.

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Burdge received his B.S. from Yale University. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1979.

After graduating from law school, Burdge joined the law firm of Lillick, McHose, and Charles as an associate in 1979. In 1986 he was made a partner for the firm, which had become Lillick and McHose, LLP. He was also a partner for the law firms of Dewey Ballantine, LLP from 1986 to 2000 and Howrey, LLP from 2000 to 2011. In 2011 he became a sole practitioner and opened the Burdge Law Firm PC. He was serving in that capacity at the time of his appointment to the Superior Court in 2014.

He has been a member of the Los Angeles Bar Association.

Judge Burdge's wife, the Hon. Lee Edmon served as a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge as well as a presiding judge for the Second District Court of Appeal for California.
