The Hon. Richard A. Eustis is First Justice of the Milford District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker on October 4, 2017.
Eustis earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rollins College in 1989. He then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1995. As a law student, Eustis conducted trials under R. 3:03 certification with the Barnstable County District Attorney’s Office.
After graduating from law school, Eustis began his legal career as trial counsel for the Judge Advocate General’s Office of the United States Navy. He concluded his service four years later, at which time he entered into private practice.
He started as an associate in the Litigation Department at Marcus, Errico, Emmer & Brooks in Braintree. He then moved to Conn, Kavanaugh, Rosenthal, Peisch & Ford in 2001, where he handled real estate litigation, insurance coverage and defense, and professional malpractice matters.
In 2003, Eustis became a partner at Greenwald, Greenwald, Powers & Eustis. He spent the next four years with the firm, specializing in criminal defense, civil litigation, and domestic relations matters. Then, in 2007, he entered into private practice as a sole practitioner. He worked in this capacity until 2014, at which time he was named First Assistant Clerk-Magistrate for the Milford District Court.
His memberships have included the Worcester County Bar Advocate Program (president) and the Medway School Committee. He is also an active volunteer with Food for the Poor and a foster parent with the Kennedy Donovan Center.
A resident of Medway, Eustis was the Republican candidate for the Tenth Norfolk District of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2012.
