The Honorable Rebecca Connolly

Biography

The Hon. Rebecca Connolly is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County in California. She was elected to the bench in 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael Barton.

Connolly earned a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1989.

She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. William J. Rea of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She then clerked for the Hon. Patricia V. Trumbull, Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. She then worked as a staff attorney for California Rural Legal Assistance, where she represented impoverished fieldworkers through its Migrant Farm Worker Project from 1991 to 1994.

Connolly has also served as an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Cruz County.

Just prior to her appointment to the bench, she was working as a civil attorney for Grunsky, Ebey, Farrar & Howell from 2003 to 2010.

She is fluent in Spanish.

While at the University of California, Berkeley, she was an NCAA Division I volleyball player.
