Judge Rachel E. Holt - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Rachel E. Holt is a judge for the Family Law Division of the San Mateo County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on April 28, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.

Holt earned a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1997.

After graduating from law school, Holt began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office in 1998. She served in that capacity until 2002, at which time she began working as a sole practitioner at the San Mateo County Private Defender Program. For much of this time, Holt also worked as a partner at Carr Yeley & Associates. Then, in 2014, she was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the San Mateo County Superior Court.

Holt is registered as a Democrat.
