Biography

The Hon. Paul L. Seave is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2010 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael T. Garcia (Ret.).

Seave is a registered Democrat.

He received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Seave clerked for the Hon. Samuel Roberts with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for one year beginning in 1979. After completing his clerkship, he joined the Philadelphia-based law firm of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews, and Ingersoll, where he practiced as an associate for three years.

Seave then joined the U.S. Attorney's Office, where he worked first as an assistant U.S. Attorney for California's Central District for ten years beginning in 1983, then for the Eastern District beginning in 1993. He also served as a special assistant attorney general for the California Department of Justice's Office of the Attorney General from 2001 to 2005 and as chief counsel for the California State Board of Education from 2005 to 2007. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Seave served three years as the director for then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Office of Gang and Youth Violence Policy.

During his time on the bench, Judge Seave has presided over a juvenile dependency, dependency drug court, and non-minor dependents calendar.
