The Hon. Patricia M. Scanlon is a judge on the Superior Court of Contra Costa County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in September 2005, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Garrett J. Grant.
Scanlon earned a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She then attended the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she received a J.D.
She became a deputy public defender for the Office of the Public Defender of Contra Costa County in 1982. She devoted twenty-three years there, handling criminal and juvenile dependency cases.
Her memberships have included Women Defenders, the California Public Defenders Association, and the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice.
She is registered as a Democrat.
