Biography

The Hon. Patricia K. Cookson is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was initially appointed to the El Cajon Municipal Court by former governor Pete Wilson on January 16, 1992. She was elevated to the Superior Court on December 1, 1998, after the unification of superior and municipal courts.

Cookson earned a B.A. from Kent State University in 1975. She then received a J.D. from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1978.

She began her legal career in 1981. She worked as a deputy district attorney with the Office of the District Attorney of San Diego County.

Then, in 1988, she joined Schall, Boudreau, and Gore as an associate. She held this position until her appointment to the bench in 1992.

Her memberships have included the California Judges Association, the American Bar Association, and the California Trial Lawyers Association.

Cookson was named Female Prosecutor of the Year by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office in 1997.
