Judge Oliver J. Lobaugh: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Oliver J. Lobaugh is the president judge for the Venango County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench in 1998. Lobaugh was retained to the seat in 2008 and 2018.

His judicial career also included presiding as a judge for the Venango County Magisterial District Court.

Lobaugh received a B.A. from Duquesne University in 1973. He went on to complete a J.D. at Duquesne University School of Law in 1977.

Prior to joining the judiciary, he had worked in both the public and private sectors. Lobaugh was an assistant district attorney with the Venango County District Attorney’s Office and worked for several years as a private practice attorney (1977 to 1997). He also spent time as a public defender in Venango County.

His memberships included the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Venango County Bar Association, the Criminal Justice Advisory Board, and the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges.

Away from the bench, Lobaugh was a keyboardist in a local band, Lawyers, Guns and Money.

He is registered as a Republican.
