Biography

The Hon. Michelle S. Short is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Hank Goldberg (Ret.).

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Short received her B.A. from California State University, Northridge. She went on to earn her J.D. from Whittier Law School.

Short began her legal career in 1999 when she became partner and owner of the law firm Rousier and Nagel, where she practiced until 2001. She then became a staff attorney at the Los Angeles County Department of Child Support Services for the next three years, when she entered into solo practice in 2005.

Ten years later, Short was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2015 and would hold that position until her appointment to the bench in 2018.

Short served as a former trustee of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association.
