The Hon. Michael R. Libutti is a judge for the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. After winning the judicial primary in March 2002, he was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis in May 2002. He filled a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Lou Glazier.
Libutti earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton. He then completed a J.D. from Western State University College of Law in 1987.
He began his legal career in private practice, handling personal injury and civil litigation cases as an associate at Chase, Rotchford, Drukker & Bogust.
Then, in 1989, he joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Bernardino County. He served as a deputy district attorney, prosecuting attempted murder, murder, robbery, rape, and narcotics cases.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Libutti was an Upland City Councilman, a position to which he was elected in 1998.
Libutti has served on the boards of the YMCA, the Upland Police Foundation, St. Marks Church, and Upland-Foothill Little League.
His memberships have included the California District Attorneys Association, the San Bernardino County Bar Association, the West End County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Italian-American Lawyers Association.
