Hon. Michael L. Barth is a commissioner for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. He joined the bench in 2006.
During his tenure as commissioner, Barth has held assignments in the Criminal, Probate, Civil, and Criminal Courts.
Before joining the bench, he sat as an administrative law judge in the Arizona Office of Administrative Hearings since 2002 (2002 to 2006).
Prior to his judicial positions, Barth was a shareholder at the Phoenix law firm of Olson, Jantsch, Bakker & Blakey (1996 to 2002) and spent ten years as an associate attorney with the Mohave County Attorney’s Office (1986 to 1996). In private practice, he handled medical malpractice defense, medical licensure, governmental liability, and construction litigation.
He received a B.A. in history and political science from Ohio Northern University in 1983. Barth went on to complete a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 1986. While a law student, he served as a law clerk for two firms in Lima, Ohio. Barth also earned an appointment as an Associate Justice on the law school’s Moot Court.
He has held memberships with the Arizona State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association, the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, and the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys.
