Biography

The Hon. Michael D. Carter is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Karl Jaeger. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Gray Davis in 2003.

Judge Carter received his B.A. from Morehouse College in 1986. He went on to earn his J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1990.

After graduating from law school, Carter joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1991 as a deputy district attorney. He remained with the D.A.'s office until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2003. During his 12 years as a deputy district attorney, Carter served in the Victim's Impact Program, the Hardcore Gang Unit, as well as in the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Division.

Judge Carter has taught trial advocacy as an adjunct assistant professor for Glendale University College of Law.

Some of his memberships have included the California District Attorney's Association, the California Association of Black Lawyers, as well as the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
