The Hon. Michael B. Harper is a judge for the Trinity County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2014. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James P. Woodward (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Harper graduated with his B.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1993.
Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Harper had served as the district attorney for Trinity County since 2007. He joined the Trinity County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney in 2001. Harper had also worked as a deputy district attorney with the Sacramento (1997 to 2001) and Placer (1993 to 1996) County District Attorney's Offices.
During his tenure on the bench, Judge Harper has served as the Assistant Presiding Judge and Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court. He has also served as the Presiding Judge of the Court. His other judicial assignments have included administering the Peer Court and providing judicial assistance for the Humboldt and Shasta County Superior Courts.
Judge Harper was appointed to serve on the California Commission on Judicial Performance in 2017.
