The Hon. Meredith L. Kennedy is a judge for the 78th District Court in Wichita County, Texas. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott on November 7, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Barney Fudge. At the time of her appointment, she became the first woman to preside over the 78th District Court as well as the first Republican woman to serve as a district judge in Wichita County.
Prior to her appointment, Kennedy served as the chief civil prosecutor for the Wichita County District Attorneys Office since 2010. Before that, she worked as an attorney in private practice as well as an attorney for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
Kennedy earned a B.B.A. in accounting from Texas Tech University. Then, in 1996, she completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law. She is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Her memberships have included the Travis County Bar Association and the Texas Young Lawyers Association. She has served as president of the Wichita County Bar Association. Kennedy has also volunteered for Christmas in Action, Business and Professional Women, Wichita Falls Youth Hockey League, Special Olympics, Falls Fest by Junior League of Wichita Falls, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Raised in Henrietta, Kennedy is the daughter of school teachers. She graduated from Henrietta High School.
She is registered as a Republican.
