The Hon. Melissa M. Vara is a judge for the County Court at Law No. 15 in Bexar County, Texas. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018, and re-elected in 2022.
Vara earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin. Then, in 2012, she completed a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Vara entered into private practice as a sole practitioner, where she specialized in criminal law, family law, estate planning, and tax matters.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Vara graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Her father currently works as a salesman in the preowned division of Ancira Winton Chevrolet. Her mother is an instructional assistant at James Madison Elementary School. Vara has a beagle named Franky as well as a labrador named Parker.
She is registered as a Democrat.
